episode #78 spring forward, fall back

The country moves from the British Summer Time (BST) to the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) this weekend, 31st October 2021. The GMT-BST separation only came into force during the first world war.  In Ireland, the DST (BST in GB) time zone is called Irish Standard Time (IST), sometimes also referred to as “Irish Summer Time”. Both BST and IST are one hour ahead of GMT.

The period when the clocks are 1 hour ahead is called British Summer Time (BST). There’s more daylight in the evenings and less in the mornings (sometimes called Daylight Saving Time).
